Saturday Feb 20

Depart Toronto on AC at 22:00 for direct overnight flight to Santiago, Chile

   

Sunday, Feb 21 

Arrive Santiago 10:30 AM. Clear Customs & purchase Visitor Visa (not incl) at airport. Transfer & check in Hotel Providencia for 2 nights. Time for a nap or relax poolside. 17:30 city tour of Santiago’s historic regions, downtown & Cerro San Cristobal lookout.

   

Monday Feb 22

Attend Canadian Embassy briefing on Chile’s agriculture & socio-economic-political climate. Then bus to El Mandarino citrus & grape farm visit. Afternoon at quaint town of Pomaire to shop for arts & crafts. Return to Santiago & get ready for Dinner Show at los Adobes do Argomedo

 

Tuesday Feb 23

 

Check out of Hotel & bus up spectacular Pacific coastline to Vicuna in Elqui Valley with stop at Almond & Avocado farm of La Quillayes. Check in to quaint Hotel Halley.

   

Wednesday Feb 24

Following breakfast, tour Pisco Capel Coop to learn how Chile’s national drink, Pisco, is produced. Continue to town of Pisco Elqui for lunch (not incl) and afternoon visit to organic winery of Cavas del Valle. Return to Hotel Haley in Vicuna. After dark visit to Mamalluca Observatory for star gazing through telescope & presentation.

   

Thursday Feb 25

  

Check out. Visit Ulises Contador multi facet farm of veggies & citrus. Visit ABA Pisco Plant in Arenal and Dole farm packaging setup. Overnight at Limari Hotel in Ovalle.

   

Friday Feb 26

 

Breakfast. Tour agro industrial Tamaya composed of winery, fruit packing, botanical nursery, etc. on 1,300 hectares producing avocado, citrus, papaya, cherimoya lucuma, olives, veggies & more. See: www.tamaya.cl/agricola Stay Limari Hotel.

   

Saturday Feb 27

  

Check out. Bus south through fertile valleys to Santa Cruz. Stay Hotel Santa Cruz.

   

Sunday Feb 28

Free morning poolside or explore town. Afternoon visit to Museo Cochagua displaying the best Andean artifact displays in South America. See: www.museocolchagua.cl

   

Monday March 1

Visit & tasting at ViuManent Winery. See: www.viumanent.cl. Followed by visits to farms in LolLol growing chickpeas, tomatoes, etc. Stay Hotel Santa Cruz.

   

Tuesday March 2

Check out. Bus back to Santiago with stop at Super Cerdo, a very modern hog processing & exporting plant. Afternoon visit to fruit packing plant. Check in for 3 nights at Hotel Providencia. Free evening.

   

Wednesday March 3

Following breakfast, early morning visit to Lo Valledor fruit, veggie & “everything else” market. See: www.lovalledor.cl. Fruit / packing farm visit in afternoon. Return to hotel

   

Thursday March 4

Breakfast followed by bus trip to coastal town of San Antonio for Cargill fertilizer plant tour. Also grain shipping &/or winery tour. Return to Hotel Providencia.

   

Friday, March 5

Check out. Depart Santiago on LAN#2636 at 9:40 arriving Lima, Peru at 11:40. Depart Lima at 13:10 on LAN to arrive Cuzco at 14:25. Short trip to Pisaq in the Sacred Valley. Check into Hotel Inka II with spa and Olympic size indoor pool. Free evening.

   

Saturday Mar 6 to Wednesday Mar 10

From our base at Royal Inka II Hotel resort, we will do daily tours with indigenous guide, Rolly, to Inca sites to see the impressive stonework of Ollaytaytambo, the beautiful Vilcamaoy Valley beside the Urubamba River, Moray agricultural terraces and other archeological sites. Of course, the highlight will be ethereal Machu Picchu above Aguas Caliente. And then there is Cuzco, the capital of the Inca Empire and lots of native crafts and alpaca woolens where we stay the last night before departing Wednesday March 10 at 9:40 on LAN#38 to Lima and connecting flights home.

   

Galapagos Ecuador Add On

Wednesday Mar 10 to Sunday Mar 14 Wednesday depart Cuzco on LAN#18 at 9:50 to connect through Lima and arrive Quito, Ecuador on 15:05. Transfer to hotel in colonial area of Quito with historic site. Next morning, fly to Baltra on Galapagos and spend the next 4 days based at unique Hotel Mainao in Porto Ayora with day trips to Darwin Tortoise Breeding Research Center, North Seymour Island's natural habitat for Boobies, Frigate birds, Sea lions, Marine Iguanas and more. You’ll also have time to snorkel among the seals, swim at Las Bachas beach and explore the volcanic Pit Craters. Finally return to overnight in Quito on Sunday before departing for home on Monday, March 15. Breakfasts, some meals and Naturalist guide will be with you on these tours.

     

Bolivia Add On

Thursday March 11 to Tuesday March 16 You’ll spend one more night in Cuzco, then fly to La Paz, Bolivia and visit native Andean villages, Lake Titicaca, street markets.
